FZIUSA 8th Zomi National Day Photos

FZIUSA 8th Zomi National Day

(Worldwide 60th Anniversary of Zomi National Day)

Taang Zomi

20 FEB 2008 WED, the 60th Anniversary of Zomi National Day, was the 8th Zomi National Day for Florida Zomi Innkuan USA (FZIUSA), which observed the Day on 20 FEB 2001 TUE for the first time in Florida.

Since there was no direction (there was no director) in taking pictures, there might be some important events or persons of which and of whom there were no pictures.

On 26 FEB 08 TUE, Taang Tawng Cin Khai contributed some 17 photos, which I brand Photo #A-01 through #A-17.

I will post the pictures as I get them from various photographers.

60th Anniversary Zomi National Day

60th Anniversary Zomi National Day

NOT 60th Zomi National Day; ONLY 60th Anniversary of Zomi National Day

By Taang Zomi

On 19 FEB 1948 THU through 22 FEB 1948 SUN, a general conference was held in Falam, the then capital city of Chin Special Division. On 20 FEB 1948 FRI, the motion to abolish the traditional hereditary chieftaincy and to replace it with parliamentary democracy was approved.

On 09 OCT 1950 MON, the Chin Affairs Council (composed of about 14 Members of Parliament) decided to institute a Zomi Nam Ni (Zomi National Day), to be observed on February 20 every year, counting it from 20 FEB 1948 FRI. The first-ever Zomi Nam Ni (Zomi National Day) was observed on 20 FEB 1951 TUE in Mindat.

It should be noted that there was no such thing as a Zomi National Day on 20 FEB 1948 FRI, 20 FEB 1949 SUN, and 20 FEB 1950 MON.[Three years.]

20 FEB 1948 FRI was theoretically the First Zomi National Day, but practically there was no such thing as Zomi National Day on that day.

20 FEB 1949 SUN was the First Anniversary of Zomi National Day when counted retroactively. That day would be the Second Zomi National Day if the day were observed on that day.

20 FEB 1951 TUE was the Third Anniversary of Zomi National Day, but the First Zomi National Day.

20 FEB 1952 WED was the Fourth Anniversary of Zomi National Day, but the Second Zomi National Day.

Zomi National Day was observed in 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954 and 1955.[Five years.]

Observance of Zomi National Day was not allowed in 1956, 1957 and 1958.[Three years.]

Zomi National Day was observed again in 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974. [Sixteen years.]

Zomi National Day -- in its pure, unadulterated form -- was observed in 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974. [Twenty-one years.]

On 03 JAN 1974 THU, the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma was approved. According to that constitution, Chin Special Division became Chin State.

The next year, on 20 FEB 1975 THU, Zomi National Day-cum-Zomi State Day was observed. That was the First Zomi National Day-cum-Zomi State Day.

Zomi National-cum-State Day was observed in 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1980. [Six years.]

Zomi National-cum-State Day was observed for the last time on 20 FEB 1980 WED.

Zomi National Day (pure) and Zomi National-cum-State Day (adulterated) were observed 27 times altogether.

The observance of both Zomi National Day and Zomi National-cum-State Day have been prohibited since 1981.

Zomi National Day was not officially observed in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. [Twenty-eight years.]

20 FEB 2008 WED was the 60th Anniversary of Zomi National Day. But that day was not the 60th Zomi National Day. If Zomi National Day were observed on 20 FEB 1948 FRI, it would be the First Zomi National Day and therefore 20 FEB 2008 WED would be the 61st Zomi National Day.

We should make no mistake in counting the anniversary (60th Anniversary Zomi National Day on 20 FEB 2008 WED) and the frequency (61st Zomi National Day on 20 FEB 2008 WED if Zomi National Day had been observed on 20 FEB 1948 FRI, which it was not) of the observance of Zomi National Day.
